TORO ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT EXPERIENCE & BAYER GREEN START ACADEMY
Toro Assistant Superintendent Experience
August 12-16, 2018
This August twelfth through the sixteenth I will have the pleasure to travel to Toro World Headquarters for the 2018 Toro Assistant Superintendent Experience. This is a highly prestigious educational program that only the top 30 Assistant Superintendents in the United States and Canada are invited to attend. Each applicant must be actively involved within the industry, submit a written essay, and demonstrate a desire towards becoming a superintendent. Once submitted, a panel of highly regarded superintendents from across the United States selects the top 30 to attend an all expense paid trip to Toro in Minnesota.
Bayer Green Start Academy 2016 Graduate

Below is some information describing the academy per the Bayer website:
"Green Start Academy is a leadership and development program for assistant superintendents held at the Bayer and John Deere facilities in North Carolina. Since 2006, the goal for this program has been to help assistant superintendents build a strong foundation for their careers, as well as to support the future of golf courses and the entire industry.
Attendees have the unique opportunity to network with peers and receive valuable insights from industry leaders. With topics from career development to budgeting to labor management, the Green Start Academy provides attendees with the education, networking and career insights they need to excel as superintendents and lead our industry into the next decade and beyond."
October of 2016 I was selected as one of the top 50 assistant superintendents in the United States and Canada to attend. Also included is the letter of recommendation the my current superintendent, Pat Hickey, Wrote on my behalf.

Dear Sir or Madam,
It is with great pleasure that I recommend Kurt Beatty as a candidate for the Bayer Green Start Academy. For the past three years, I have had the pleasure of working alongside with Kurt as our First Assistant here at Green Brook Country Club.
Over the last 15 years I have had the good fortune of having strong First Assistants as part of our team, all who have gone on to become leaders in the golf course management profession, but I can honestly say I have never had such an enthusiastic and focused team member as I have found in Kurt.
Kurt has consistently outperformed our expectations of what it takes to make an outstanding First Assistant here at our club. His attention to detail, strong work ethic, leadership, and most importantly his daily interaction with our staff and membership set him apart in terms of what makes him an incredible employee and all around individual.
I strongly feel based on Kurt's proven performance and demeanor that he would be a tremendous asset to your academy. I believe that your program would only strengthen his pursuit of taking the next step in his career to becoming a golf course superintendent, which has been a lifelong dream of his. It is my sincere hope that Kurt will receive admission to your highly regarded program this year. Should you have any questions regarding his candidacy, please do not hesitate to reach out to me, I would be happy to discuss any aspect of Kurt's background and character with you.
Sincerely,
Patrick J. Hickey
Golf Course Superintendent
